The Cielo Verde Story.
In 2001 Cielo Verde Limited Partnership was granted approval by the City of Yuma for an innovative community plan, which today remains a leading model for urban design planning in this community. Today, more than six years later, the City is pursuing new “smart growth” zoning initiatives which will permit more flexible residential and commercial development, modeled on principles pioneered locally by Cielo Verde in cooperation with the City. The design objective is to give people greater flexibility in life-style choices and make neighborhoods more “livable,” while increasing access to the outdoors and a range of pedestrian activities close to home.
So what would it be like to live in such a community?
Imagine gently curving tree-lined streets and distinctive neighborhoods connected by landscaped pedestrian pathways independent of the road system, perhaps reminiscent of the place your grandparents grew up. Wouldn’t it be nice to walk for a haircut on a Saturday morning, or an ice cream cone or an evening coffee? There’s a shopping center being built right now as an integral part of Cielo Verde’s community plan offering a range of shops and services, just a short walk or bike ride from home.
Residential neighborhoods, shopping and a public park, all functioning together.
As a component of the community plan, over the course of the development a 25-acre linear park will be constructed with play areas and walking and bike paths shaded by native desert trees and plants. The public park is designed as an amenity for residents at Cielo Verde and the surrounding area, and also serves to connect “walkable” neighborhoods and provide a convenient and healthy choice alternative to automobile travel.
Variety as the “spice of life.”
Cielo Verde’s special zoning designation permits a range of housing types, which means variety in architectural design as well as age range and composition of its residents. It’s a place where retired couples or individuals might live near their offspring just purchasing their first home.

Architectural details such as side-turned and rear-set garages are interspersed with more traditional layouts to relieve streetscape monotony and enrich variety and attractiveness. The Phase I homes are designed to portray this vision of community. Front porches and courtyards built near the sidewalk are planned to encourage friendly interaction in a spirit of old-fashioned neighborliness.

The courtyard homes in Phase II are designed for privacy, security and low maintenance, perfect for retirement living or seasonal occupancy. Each deeded-lot home is built around its own exquisite private courtyard. Garages are accessed off a separate City street out of sight at the rear of the lot.
